It would be very helpful to get an update on this along with some realistic timescale expectations as I have this in mind for some projects, but it'll depend entirely on having an inline / frontend editor in place.

I can suggest you to integrate the excellent "contentbuilder.js" javascript editor, very well made, easy to use, and if you can integrate their block system with october (block = content ?) it can be very powerful.

Latest blog post says Live Editing has been put on hold (could take months to years to do). Oh well.

I have mode some progress with the content builder (page builder). I have to fix a couple bugs and add new components.

I will keep you posted on the progress.

It was announced as a "big plan for 2017", so I would expect, at least, a beta release somewhere in 2017.

But the latest blog post says that it could take months to years to be done...

Hope to see it coming in 2017 as it was an important feature that make me choose october CMS as a my main plateform recently. Maybe I anticipated too much and will need to reinstall wordpress by waiting the feature.

I disagree with the visual page builder philosophy. Giving the customer fields with specific purpose is better in the long term. With visual page builders you see elements like headers where they don't belong just because the customer likes the way they look. Full of broken garbage html leftovers. A disaster if you want to serve the data in another form, ie expose them in an API or change the layout. It's probably bad for SEO too.

If october will support visual page builders I would prefer they were the type where the user can add complete blocks and only edit the data of each element, not add/delete elements.

@gergo85, that's not a page builder as I expect for several reason :

• You edit page in backend, so you don't directly see how it will render on frontend.
• It's powerful, but complex to use. In fact, it's more than a visual representation of all possible css rules, than an easy to use for non tech user visual builder.

The typical client for that tool is the web developper that prefer to use a visual interface than write CSS (but know all css concept). That's quite different than a page builder made for non-tech user.

I am personally not a fan of visual page builders because they reduce webdesign to a tool. Buying a hammer does not make you a carpenter.

• Webdesign is about function, design and content.
• Webdevelopment is about function, design and content.
• Conversion optimalisation is about function, design and content.
• SEO is about function, design and content.

That is why webdevelopment is called multidisciplinary.

It really is not that hard to learn HTML and CSS (even highschools teach it) and I strongly believe that designers who refuse to learn it should confine themselves to doing printwork and not present themselves as webdesigners (give a framework like Bootstrap a try).

Being able to create something that looks nice is not the same as webdesign and October is not WordPress. October is a tool that helps webdevelopers and webdesigners write quality code faster, not create websites that may look the part but that do not perform.

Not being able to use HTML and CSS will limit you for the duration of your career as it restricts you to whatever building blocks are popular. They restrict you to mediocrity at best. Bottom line, having a visual page builder will not help you create better websites (at all). Learning these skills (HTML/CSS) will.

End-users have no business touching either design or functionality. This is like inviting the deaf to compose music and something any professional should highly, strongly, boldly discourage as part of the service that they provide to their clients. It will always actively hurt your site. Do you do your own dentist work as well?
