Hi all,
Just discovered October recently and starting to look into it. One thing I wonder, and haven't found a clear answer to yet, what is the difference between the pages under the CMS section and the static pages plugin?
Hope anyone can explain it to me.
Really? No one here is able to explain this in a few words?
As far as I have figured out this far, static pages are the same as pages, but using a WYSIWYG editor. Also, I noticed that the static pages are saved in the content section of the cms, instead of the pages section.
Still not completely clear, though. The plugin page doesn't offer any explanations either.
Think of static pages as plain content pages like an "about us" page where all that changes is the content, simple text, maybe some images. Static pages are easily editable by the end user.
CMS pages are more "technical". The end user might not need to edit these directly. An example is a "login" page with authentication logic behind it.
Are two separate entity types really necessary for both of these two slightly different use cases? I'm new to October but still, it seems to me that extending pages would have been a better option vs duplicating much of the same functionality, and would also lead to less confusion from new users...
Pages define the structure of the website and are functional pages, with HTML code
Static Pages also contribute to the structure but are content-driven, with WYSIWYG and easy to use editors
