I am getting error after updating says it failed. We're sorry, but an unhandled error occurred. Please see the details below.

Call to undefined method System\Classes\CombineAssets::registerCallback()
/home/kurt/www/october/modules/backend/ServiceProvider.php line 168

Cannot access anything. :(

Looks like your update process did not complete entirely. The easy solution for this is to update the following file with these contents:

  • modules/system/classes/CombineAssets.php

That did the trick. Thanks daftspunk. After the fix I did another update and discovered that my system would not complete another update. I believe the issue was that file permissions would not allow www-data to change files. It did not take long to figure this out, but some users may really struggle with this. IMHO the update system should have detected and alerted me that it could not write files. Maybe this could be added in the future.
