Could anyone please explain how I can get this plugin to work with content in placeholders ?

Currently content in placeholders is not supported.

You could try to get it work with the experimental cms pages support. This will not work if the placeholders are in snippets.

You can also write your own content provider (see docs) that listens to the sitesearch.query event and inject your content there.

Since placeholders get rendered on page load it's hard to make them searchable.
