The introductory part in the front-end posts widget is set as non-raw, meaning if you write in there some HTML code, it will be displayed escaped.

Actually, would it be possible to allow custom layouts? Because I'd really like to customize how the list looks...

I updated the plugin. If you'd like a custom posts layout, you should use an own php and html codes on CMS -> Page.
