Is there a way to modify the layout/markup of the component... say blogPost for example? If there's not an easy way to override this, could you put classes on things like the 'posted by' h4 or the 'read more' link (maybe more elements too!) so they could be re-styled with css?

Also, on build 157 (october), I'm getting an error in the JS console Uncaught Error: No such method "get" for Redactor whenever I switch to the 'SEO Optimizer' tab while editing a blog post (the post is written in the default editor). The SEO Optimizer tab never loads any content beyond the default blank tables. :(

Edit: This issue and the referenced commit seem like they may be related, although without seeing the source of ProBlog, I can't tell for sure! (I'm willing to help contribute a pull request or two to help solve some of these issues. If interested in help let me know and we'll link up on github... either way thanks again!)

Modifying the layout/markup of a component is easy... there are several ways to do it:

See this video: http://octobercms.com/blog/post/mastering-components As well as: https://github.com/octobercms/docs/issues/18

If I edit the markup the way demonstrated at the end of the video (via the backend), will it persist if the plugin is updated? Thanks, very insightful video.

It will persist. If the blog plugin changes any of the component variables then it may stop working, but there is a low chance of that happening.

I would probably recommend you learn how to do the partial override with a theme partial. It works well and keeps your overrides organized in the same place.
