I am looking for a way to disable the generic provider to use only our custom provider without modifying the plugin files (so as not to risk making changes that an update of the plugin could overwrite)

any idea or suggestion ? thanks

Have you tried turning all the providers off via the backend settings page?

In theory, this should give you the desired result.
