I can't get this to work with Mandrill at all.

Password reset emails work fine, so I think my general configuration for sending emails is correct.

I've added this on the relevant page:

{% scripts %} {% framework %} {% framework extras %}

{% component 'contactForm' %}

Any idea what might be causing this?

Did you fix the issue ? I am trying to use Mandrill soon as well

Not sure if it matters for this, but I've run into strange problems when having both {% framework %} and {% framework extras %} like that. The 'extras' is a parameter of the 'framework' tag, 'framework extras' is not a separate tag of its own. Essentially you're loading the ajax framework twice. Remove the singular {% framework %} entry and see if it makes any difference for you.
