Is there a general rule of thumb for what you should write inline on a page, and what you should put into its own content section? I'm assuming that content is generally reserved for things that you would want to reuse?
I'm just trying to wrap my head around the terminology and design philosophy, and the documentation isn't completely clear on it.

I'd go along with that - writing content in a page is specific to that page, while content in the "Contents" section are re-usable across all pages? Much like partials, where partials are re-usable "code" blocks ie a <header> block, but contents are more like paragraphs of content or plain text - that's how I see it :)
