Hi,

Does anyone have a recommended UK based hosting that works well with OctoberCMS ? I'm currently using 123-reg who I hate, as I can't get the CMS to install on certain sites, always get 500 errors, yet on other sites with 123-reg it does (WTF?) so would like to switch hosts because I've had enough - any recommendations?

Thanks

You should check: http://lowendbox.com

Maybe find a good solution. It depends on your budget.

Digital Ocean or Linode are both good options, and both have datacentres in the UK. Basically anything that's not shared hosting - most shared providers will bite you in the rear at some point with either outdated or restrictive configurations that you often can't do anything about. Unless you're really lucky, of course.

If you want to give Digital Ocean a try, use this link to get $10 in credit: https://www.digitalocean.com/?refcode=cc3d87c5df5e (disclaimer: if/when you reach $25 in billings, I get credit too)

You can also try out Cloudways platform to host October CMS. They posted a great tutorial on installing the CMS on cloud using this platform. You can find the tutorial here: https://www.cloudways.com/blog/how-to-install-october-cms/

I would also vouch for DigitalOcean. I have ben using them for almost 2 years now and couldn't be any happier. Also, they have TONS of tutorials and support articles as and when you need them.

I got my own Linode VPS, but want to avoid the hassle of maintaining additional servers for my clients. So I was wondering if Cloudways managed hosting is still recommended? Also, does their Email hosting addon work well? I am hoping I could perhaps use Cloudways to host medium-sized customers using October.

Would this plan be sufficient for a smallish October web site?

Or is 2GB RAM perhaps required for things to run smoothly?

I am now looking at Serverpilot, anyone tried them? Here is a comparison between Cloudways and Serverpilot: http://www.finalwebsites.com/wordpress-hosting-serverpilot-vs-cloudways/

Although not in the UK, they come highly recommended. I use TransIP from The Netherlands. I have the cheapest shared server, but it is very fast and extremely reliable (running Debian 8). I don't notice at all that it is not a dedicated server so far. Support is really good and no restriction what you run.

Sorry, I should have been more specific in my requirements, but I am looking for managed hosting with SSH command line access, not shared hosting. Right now I am considering serverpilot.io combined with Linode, and Email at Zoho. I have since learned that 1GB is sufficient for October CMS, which is $5 per month at Linode and 10$ at DigitalOcean. I will report back my findings after I tried it out this combination.
