Hello - I should start by saying that I am totally new to October. I have extensively developed using other similar CMS's but this is my first day here so apologies for the slight noob ignorance...
I have inherited an October site. I am unable to access the server where the site lives (long story) - essentially the client doesn't have access. So - I need to try and migrate the site without having access to the server.
I've been looking at the 'Backup Manager' plugin (https://octobercms.com/plugin/renatio-backupmanager) which would appear to do what I need to get the files/database. I have access to the site backend, and I am able to install plugins which is great, but when I search for the Backup Manager from the site backend plugins page the plugin isn't found. Presumably this is because I need to pay for it first (?)
So - my first question - is it possible to install paid-for plugins without having server access? If so, how do I go about installing them please?
Second question - Will I run into issues not being the October account that owns the original 'project'? I am obviously fully prepared to re-license any paid-for plugins already on the site.
Any advice / help would be gratefully received!
Many thanks.

Paid plugins are tied to a Project. You can read up on it here. That will tell you exactly how to link your current installation to a project, then you can purchase your plugins and attach then during the purchase and when you go into the backup and do an update, those new paid plugins will be installed for you.
I'm hoping that the installation you have is not already linked to an existing project that is possibly under someone elses control. If that's the case, I'm not sure what can be done - I'd have to refer that to someone with more power than I.
Thanks for your reply ndcisiv - very helpful!
In my System / Updates page, Next to the 'Project' sub-title I have a 'broken link' icon and the word 'None' - Which I am presuming means my installation is not already linked to an existing project (?) If this is the case, if I now link it to a new project that I've created, does this process have any negative effect (e.g. down time) on the installation at all? The site is live and has a reasonable amount of traffic, so I really want to try to avoid breaking it or having any downtime if at all possible.
Thanks.
The process was extremely simple when I had to do it. Only takes a second, and it didn't stop or slow my site at all.
