I need help with the October Rain library. The license currently says Copyright (c) 2013-2021 Alexey Bobkov, Samuel Georges, October CMS https://github.com/octobercms/library/blob/develop/LICENSE . There is no other license file, which means no one can use it except the authors / OctoberCMS. I would love to use parts of these, but currently, it's not in MIT license.

Can someone clarify if this is exclusively for use by Octobercms and no one else or add the MIT license?

Hi Tschallacka,

October CMS has recently moved to a professionally managed platform and hence the license has changed: https://octobercms.com/blog/post/october-cms-moves-become-paid-platform

If you need to use the October Rain library is another project, please contact us to arrange a different licensing arrangement

The main downside of OctoberCMS is the lack of a big community... I come from Wordpress and I´m Learning Laravel using OctoberCMS and It has many things I love but the lack of a properly run Forum with an active community makes my work much slower.

The way I see it If it will no longer be an Open Source project and then the community will become even smaller ... I´m sorry to say I´ll be saying goodbye to OctoberCMS which is Sad.

Actually, the community became too big and it pushed away professional users. Some serious issues were left unattended for years

The code is still very much open source, the only thing that changes is the request for financial support to continue the sustainability of the project. The fee is modest and the return is a professionally managed product by paid staff

Community driven projects are fine but over the years this did not serve October CMS well and many asked us if the project was still alive. Realistically the people behind the project were starving and nobody can work for free forever

Saying goodbye is never easy but sometimes it is for the best. Good luck with your next adventure!

Leaving aside the initial Grumpiness I can totally understand you point of view :-) and sure it's very little money! Maybe It's more a bout pride too ... been always part of the open community and always been running away from options that depend on external companies that sometimes make decissions based on things that are detrimental to its user base.

I just wish there was a bigger community of users willing to share knowledge, reply on the forum ... and create an 'open community' ... sometimes I find myself losing a lot of time getting aroud something that was very easy, and could have been easily fixed by someone in a minute, and in turn that post will help many other people ... and the wheel keeps turning.

Coming form Wordpress I love everything form OctoberCMS and how it deals with it from a much more organised point of view, but I hate not to find an answer to some of my questions. I miss more code examples in the documentation, or maybe code snippets of some short.

I understand that a professional user is any developer - or do you mean Plugin/Theme developers? Aren´t we all Professional users?

I see the effort put by you guys and the difficulty pushing forward a project like this is very time and effort consuming.

So yeh! Good luck and I wont be jumping of the wagon as of yet.
