We were fascinated by the idea of a flat-file CMS and therefore chose October to our small websites and landing pages. A flat-file CMS fits well using Git to store sites, and is safe and easy to manage.

Yeserday we bought October 2 license an found that it wants DB. What am I misunderstanding? How we should use October 2 without a database server? We are ready to edit sites via files, but we cannot even install this CMS without a database.

Can anyone explain the concept to me? Thanks!

Yes, it is in terms of theme and static pages. all theme files and their settings can be stored in files so when you migrate you just need to export the theme and all done!

there is a good article where you can find about themes : How To Edit OctoberCms Theme

And from here : Extend And Export OctoberCMS Theme Settings you can make all theme settings available in the file:

If you do this you can achieve 100% flat-file CMS
