I just updated my october installation from v1 to v2. Everything works great, but I'm missing the options to install plugins in the backend, I see an artisan command showing up, but my website is on shared hosting, so that's not an option. Is there some setting to change to get the install buttons back? Or is this not implemented in v2?

Installing plugins via the backend is not currently available in v2 since we moved to use composer as a package manager. This is primarily because composer itself does not have a user interface. This feature should return as part of the Docker Image roadmap item.
