I've ported a CC BY 3.0 template to October CMS. I've made a few UI/UX improvements over the original template.

Can I use the theme for commercial purposes on October Marketplace?

CC BY 3.0 license states that I can use the work for commercial purposes as long as I give attribution.

Based on "Best practices for attribution" on CC Wiki, I should give attribution for "modification" and "derivative work":

This is a good attribution for material you modified slightly

"ORIGINAL_WORK" by ORIGINAL_AUTHOR, used under CC BY 3.0 / Desaturated from original

This is a good attribution for material from which you created a derivative work

This work, "DERIVATIVE_WORK", is a derivative of "ORIGINAL_WORK" by ORIGINAL_AUTHOR, used under CC BY 3.0. "DERIVATIVE_WORK" is licensed under Regular or Extended marketplace license by MY_NAME

Hello msof,

INAL but it does look like this license allows you to remix and redistribute the works. What you are doing is licensing your modifications, not the actual template itself.

The safest bet would be to contact the original author to check with them.

Hope this helps!
