I am new to the forum and I am helping a friend with his website. His hosting provider updated the PHP version to 7, after that October (of course) didn't work anymore. I do not use October nor Laravel. I would like to install the new version of October, but since the backend is not active, is that a way not to lose all the content of the site?

You can try to install fresh october in seperate folder, then install rquired plugins and finally copy required theme and finally activate it from the original theme folder.
