Hello, october cms is really new for me. I have a question related to the image path that has to be set via css. The way it works is url('../themes/themeName/...) Why do I have to set ../ - in which directory does the application is running?

It's a relative path to assets directory. Your *.css is inside css folder so you have to use ../ to go one level up. Look at demo -> theme.css.
