A custom installer allows people who are not already using October to install your project from your own product website (and install October in the background). This is great for October projects that offer plugins that do not necessarily have a relation with your website like Invoicing, Helpdesk, etc. in order to market these kind of generic products to a larger audience than users of October CMS.
