Does the plugin support having multiple sites that appear as sub-directories of the primary domain. For example

Child site for Birmingham location of a business: www.mysite.com/alabama/birmingham

No, this plugin works for domains only. You can use www.mysite.com to go to one theme and birmingham.mysite.com to go to another, the plugin was not created to cover theme-switching for subpages.
