I tried in Chrome and Firefox, I have several problems with the Media Manager. At first I noticed that the directory "Media" in storage/apps did not exist. So I created it and assigned 777 to it. When I click the "Media"-tab in the backend, the Media Manager is completely unusable. Most buttons do nothing at all. "Create Directory" button opens a modal with endless loader-animation. When I click a "Insert Media"-button within the editor the Media Manager opens in a modal. Here I can create directories and upload files. But then the problems start: 1. an image got stuck at 99% but was inserted to the editor anyway. 2. Another image uploaded completely, but now I can not insert any of the uploaded media because I can not select them in the Media Manager.

Could the File Manager Plugin have created conflicts with the core MM? I deleted it, but to no effect on the MM problems. Would reinstalling October help? I tried PHP7 and PHP 5.6 - both the same

Now I reinstalled completely from scratch and also chose "From Scratch" instead of "Theme". The /media - folder got created and everything works so far. I am a little hesitant to install any plugins or themes as it might break core functions again. Any way to know what is safe to try and what is not? It would be terrible to break a production site just by installing a plugin from the repo!
