I'm currently evaluating OctoberCMS for a client project (and many more from what I've seen so far!), yet I think I'm missing something obvious with this plugin. Hopefully someone in here has seen something similar and can point me in the right direction...

I installed the plugin through the settings tab, and it installed location and notify etc. I was expecting the additional form fields to appear in the frontend through the account component, but they don't. They are visible in the admin. Do I have to (somehow) manually add these fields through a partial override, or has the plugin not installed a component that it should have? The only component available in the UserPlus plugin seems to be Notifications.

Yeah you are correct you have to override the component partial and also override the handler method is required. This is the way october works. It gives you the basic and allows you for extensibility as it practically not possible to cover all edge cases

I was beginning to think that was the case.

So am I right in thinking all the UserPlus plugin does, as far as the user plugin is concerned, is add the extra fields to the database, and create the backend interface to use them in admin?

Yes it's true
