I'm running October on a Ubuntu 15 machine with a basic LAMP stack. Everything works fine and my permissions are fine. However, whenever I try to run

php artisan create:plugin etc I get the following error:

storage/logs/system.log" could not be opened: failed to open stream: Permission denied'

The storage folder and all of it's contents are presently at 777 but I'm getting no love. What makes it even stranger is that the storage/logs/ folder is empty. There is no system.log file at all. Any thoughts?
