The best option for a shop plugin is Octoshop. It also has a live demo so you can try before you buy. Version 2.0 will be released soon which adds payment gateways, taxes and more. Shortly after that, product attributes/options will also be added.
A couple people did post links to their real online stores using Octoshop in the support forum. However, they were posted a while ago so I can't remember which thread they were linked from.

There are no finished e-commerce solutions still for october. The other option is firestarter's shop which is not great https://github.com/FirestarterUA/shop. You can also take a look on http://sylius.org/ (built on Symfony), but it's also in alpha stage.
