It would be great if you could set an optional table prefix, so you can have multiple October installations in a single database (or indeed share the database with other CMSs including Wordpress and ExpressionEngine - both of which do offer this feature).

That's already possible. You just need to adjust your database config.

My apologies - I'm talking about the installation script, which doesn't offer the option to set a prefix.
