You really need to have at least basic Laravel knowledge to do things with OctoberCMS. I recommend going thru the Laravel docs at https://laravel.com/docs/5.1 (OctoberCMS is based on Laravel 5.1 LTS) or the super awesome https://laracasts.com.

If you only need a few features and not the full blown framework that Laravel offers, you should look at https://getcomposer.org/ and some packages on https://packagist.org/.
