The subject line is basically the question. After October is installed, there are quite a few patches and updates coming out that would be nice to apply. These all seem to reside in the GitHub repo. Can we use git (which I am unfamiliar with, sorry) to apply them, or should we try some other mechanism? How do we go about this? I don't really need and in-depth guide, but an overview would be nice.

Oh, and in case there is any confusion, I'm not just referring to the standard builds, which are quite nice and easy to apply. I'm talking about applying patches before they get merged into the standard build, or patches that never get merged.
