I installed the theme, but it doesn't look anything like the demo images. Am I supposed to compile the .less file in the assetts/css directory?

I released a theme update 1.0.5 it should help! Install this update and make sure that you have the following plugins installed
- RainLab.Pages
- RainLab.Blog
- AnandPatel.SeoExtension
- Xeor.ContentType
- ToughDeveloper.ImageResizer

Should the update be available through backend/system/updates, or do I have to download and install it manually?

Should work through the update, but if you want 100% result, it is better to do it manually.
