@ChadStrat, if you replace line 22 with:

return $('#mytextarea').html()

The SEO optimizer seems to work fine. I'm not 100% sure what it expects in terms of input string format though. Like you said, it will likely be a step-by-step evolvement. I'm sure the markup related to the markdown-mode editor will be changing once you get some time for updates anyway.
