I'm considering replacing Rainlab's blog plugin with this plugin however, I just want to clarify a few things before making any changes.

1. Is the post's featured image taken from / uploaded to the backend's media area?
2. Recently, Rainlab implemented the ability to link to next and previous posts, would this be possible on this plugin?

1. You can upload the featured image via Media.
2. For now there is no next and previous posts component in this plugin. But you can make manually.
