Subscribers
Subscribers and lists are managed in the admin panel by navigating to Mailing List > Subscribers and Mailing List > Lists.
Subscriber Lists
A subscriber list is a mailing list that people opt in to. Each list has a Code used to reference it from components, for example followers.
A subscriber can belong to many lists. A new subscriber is usually added to one list by the Signup component, and the admin panel can add the same subscriber to other lists later.
Enable Allow subscribers to manage their list membership on a list to make it public. Public lists can be managed by subscribers using the Subscriptions component, and offered as an opt-in when registering a user account. Lists without this setting are only managed in the admin panel.
Subscriber Status
Every subscriber is in one of the following states.
| Status | Description |
|---|---|
| Unconfirmed | The subscriber has not confirmed their email address and will not receive campaigns. Click Confirm manually on the subscriber page to confirm them. |
| Confirmed | The subscriber receives campaigns sent to their lists. Click Unsubscribe manually on the subscriber page to opt them out. |
| Unsubscribed | The subscriber has opted out and will not receive campaigns. |
When creating a subscriber in the admin panel, check Mark as confirmed to skip the confirmation step.
Importing and Exporting
Subscribers can be imported from and exported to a CSV file using More Actions > Import Subscribers and Export Subscribers on the Subscribers page. The following columns are supported.
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| The subscriber's email address. | |
| First Name | The subscriber's first name. |
| Last Name | The subscriber's last name. |
| Lists | List codes the subscriber belongs to. |
| Opt-in Date | When the subscriber signed up. |
| Opt-in IP Address | The IP address used to sign up. |
| Confirmed Date | When the subscriber confirmed their email address. |
| Confirmed IP Address | The IP address used to confirm. |
| Last Updated Date | When the subscriber was last updated. |
| Preferred Message Type | The preferred message format, for example html. |
When importing, check Create subscriber lists specified in the import file to create the lists named in the Lists column. Otherwise, select the lists that imported subscribers should belong to.
Meta Data
Extra information captured by the Signup component is stored with each subscriber and shown on the subscriber page. The meta data column is hidden in the list view by default.
Recipient Groups
A recipient group is like a list, except the recipients are generated by the system. The plugin includes an All registered users group when the RainLab.User plugin is installed, and other plugins can register their own groups.
Recipient groups are used in two ways.
- Campaign target: select the group when launching a campaign. The recipients are resolved when the campaign launches, so the audience is always current.
- Add to a list: click Add Recipient Group on a list page to copy the current recipients into the list once. People who join the group later are not added automatically.
Recipients that are not already subscribers are created as confirmed subscribers. Existing subscribers who have unsubscribed are still skipped when the campaign is sent.
