Campaign Manager
Send professional campaign messages to your subscribers.
Campaigns
Campaigns are managed in the admin panel by navigating to Mailing List > Campaigns.
Creating a Campaign
When you create a campaign for the first time, it asks if you want to generate a default campaign template in the current theme. This provides some sample content you can use to get started. See Templates for designing your own.
After naming your campaign, you can edit the message content as many times as you like. Click Send test message to preview the message in your own inbox.
Launching a Campaign
When the message is ready, click Launch campaign and select the target audience.
- Subscriber Lists sends to the confirmed subscribers of the selected lists.
- Recipient Groups sends to a system generated audience, for example All registered users. See Subscribers.
Subscribers that have not confirmed their email address, or have unsubscribed, are skipped when the message is sent.
Launch Options
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Delayed launch | Select an exact date and time to send the message. This is good for perfectly timing your campaign. |
| Staggered launch | Divide the subscribers into smaller groups, by a time period or by a fixed amount of messages. Each group is contacted every hour until all subscribers have been sent the message. |
| Repeat frequency | The campaign duplicates itself after it has launched, and applies the delayed launch option to match the frequency. This continues until you cancel the most recent iteration. |
Repeating campaigns are particularly useful when the content is generated dynamically, for example, a message containing the latest blog posts on your site. They can repeat daily, weekly, every two weeks, monthly or yearly.
The next launch date is counted from the planned launch date, so the campaign keeps the same time of day. Dates are calculated in the backend timezone (backend.timezone), so the time of day also stays the same across daylight saving changes. If a launch is missed, for example when the scheduler was not running, the next launch is moved to the first future date rather than sending the missed runs. Monthly campaigns planned on the 29th, 30th or 31st move to the last day of a shorter month, and stay on that day afterwards, so plan monthly campaigns on the 28th or earlier to keep a fixed day.
Mail Method
Each campaign can send through a specific mail configuration, such as a different sender address or transport. Leave it empty to use the default. See Settings.
Campaign Status
A campaign moves through several statuses during its lifetime.
| Status | Description |
|---|---|
| Draft | The campaign is still having content added and the design may be changing. This is the only status where content can be modified. |
| Pending | The campaign uses a delayed launch and is waiting for the launch date to pass. |
| Processing | A list of subscribers is being built. For large lists this can take a few minutes. |
| Active | Messages are still queued to be sent. Some subscribers may have received the message. Staggered campaigns can stay in this status for some time. |
| Sent | The campaign is complete and every subscriber should have received the message. Activity such as opens and unsubscribes is recorded. |
| Cancelled | The campaign was cancelled while it was active, or before it reached the launch date. |
| Archived | The campaign is old and no longer needs to be seen. All recorded subscriber activity has been deleted. |
