I can make a simple sub-menu by making a link item that directs to #. However, I cannot customize the link markup without affecting the <a> tags for page items as well. There should either be a way to add a sub-menu item that can be customized separately, or a link item that can be customized separately.

Also, when I create a link item and attempt to leave the URL blank (as the note below the field suggests I should do for #), I get an invalid URL error. Perhaps the functionality I am seeking would work if the URL validation would allow for a blank field?
