Really weird. I had this 500 error message after clean installation: " PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /home7/public_html/index.php on line 42" on PHP 5.6.

It is gone when I revert to PHP5.4, and when I switch to PHP5.6 again, it never comes up.

Any thoughts?

Create file in project root composer.json and add code from https://github.com/octobercms/october/blob/stable/composer.json Update your installation with composer update. After that works great even on php 7
