Hi,
I've installed October a few times before and I've never had any issues, but for some reason I'm now consistently running into the following error:
Could not extract application files Something went wrong during the installation. Please check the log file or see the documentation for more information.
The log shows this: http://kopy.io/3Tr9B
Can anyone give any insight as to why this is happening? I tried starting over from scratch, double checking permissions and authentication info, and all is correct.

You probably have permission issue for installation folder which installation script can't create folders. It looks for index.php, modules folder, vendor folder after decompressing. If not present, throws this error

Hey,
Thanks for the reply - I thought I responded but I guess it never posted.
Those folders and many files inside are getting created just fine - it's just that the installer seems to be stuck when expanding the "a74ad8dfacd4f985eb3977517615ce25.arc" file as quoted in the log.
Thank you for your help,
Crystal
We automated october installations with using composer for new installations. But I just tried to install fresh one with installation script. Used from scratch option while installation step and it succeeded.
If you are choosing any theme or plugin while first installation, maybe you should try scratch option. Because if those folders created, base october installation seems ok for you.
This topic seems a bit relevant to your status: cant-install-theme-from-installer
I was receiving this error with the "from scratch" option, not with a theme or project.
It's really weird to getting this error when you have vendor and modules folders and also files are present.
Also source of the error: Installer.php
I agree! It's very strange, it shouldn't be happening, and yet here we are.
Thank you for all of your help so far.
Getting the same error, I don't think it's permission issue. Installer worked without any problem two weeks ago.

I'm so glad it's not just me.
I haven't yet found a solution and am forced to switch to a different CMS for new installs until I get this error figured out.
Okey, I found out what was the problem in my case. I had too small Harddisk Quota and Traffic Quota for my host. The minimal requirement for scratch installation (without theme and plugins) is already 50 mb. I would recommend to add this information to Minimum system requirements section.
