Hello OctoberCMS Community,

our web agency is searching for a valid replacement for Wordpress. We really like OctoberCMS and already tried to implement projects based on it - however there are some UX flaws for our clients we cannot solve. And we are sure others must have this problems, too.

We consider them as real blockers, which force us to not use OctoberCMS for more projects, if we cannot solve them.

Many of our projects require some kind of custom fields - and the Static Pages plugin provides support for that via Placeholders and Variables. However, if using placeholders we can use only one field per Tab. Furthermore support is limited to certain types, media/images are not supported. The support for variables is better, but for our average client they are hidden to deeply in the editor, they wont be able to find the little toggle on the right (see picture) without our support.

The client has to figure out that the contents are hidden behind this small toggle. We are afraid many client wont find that.

  • Does anybody have an idea how to simply expand this area on default (and even better directly open the with the custom fields, which is the third, after "Settings" & "Meta")?
  • Can we also hide the WYSIWYG editor below? We only want one area with contents to edit, two areas are confusing end-users.
  • Are there any plans to make the backend for static pages more user-friendly for non developers? Or at least extend the support for placeholders tabs to allow many fields, similar to the placeholder implementation?

We would really appreciate any solution! We think OctoberCMS is really great and don't want to drop it because there is one thing we cannot solve on our own.

Thanks a lot for you support!

Philipp (from DigitalWerft in Berlin)

Dear OctoberCMS Community, we are sad that we not got a response to our question.

It looks like nobody shares our struggles or sees a solution - there also seem to be no plans to solve that in future. This makes us very pessimistic that the UX of October CMS might get better.

We are really sorry - and I also regret this personally a lot - but we see no other option to use Wordpress again in our future projects :(

Kind regards, Philipp
